An existing water feature finds a new life.
This aquatic plant installation thrives throughout the hot Summer. Previously a somewhat sad tiled water feature with a history of broken parts and mosquito issues, we were able to turn this fountain into a living pondscape with a dynamic selection of plants and Mosquitofish, (Gambusia affinis) that live off the mosquito larva.
The pondscape includes plants of varying leaf shapes, textures, heights, and blossom colors.
Over time, the lily pads spread, the flowers bloomed, and the elephant ear Alocasia plants grow to give this once-stale water feature the feeling of a living, breathing water ecosystem.
We are happy to report the small fish used to mitigate mosquitos are also doing well and keeping pests at bay!
Looking forward to seeing what color lily pops up next.
