Wawona “Held”
For these clients, we aimed to create softness and a sense of enclosure. Like a cozy living room, but outside. They also wanted ample space for their baby to be able to crawl around on the grass.
This was a small space with some interesting restraint — most notably, a miniature bocce ball-like trench in the middle of the garden. We turned the concrete pit into a stone dining patio and enclosed the entire space with a dynamic combination of plants, ranging from subtropical to native Californian. For the lawn area, we incorporated large boulders, which can be used as seats for watching the baby and eventually some fun outdoor play.
