Atwater “Cooling”

“Sure, we can fit a pool in there.”

This project was an exercise in making a lot out of a little. With the existing garden being very narrow and at a much lower elevation than the residence, our goal was to unify the landscape while creating separate spaces to make it feel larger. We achieved this by creating three levels instead of two, a patio with bleacher seating, a pool and spa deck, and a lower lounge with a built-in bench.

The materials palette inspiration was Santa Barbara meets Fire Island (if that's even possible!) With warm gravel and concrete, cool-toned native plants, and a Kebony wood deck around the pool. This is a bite-size oasis that looks like it's always been there. Perfect for cooling off on a hot LA afternoon.
